Darche Double Dee Hybrid vs Roof Lodge Maikhan (140)

The Darche Double Dee Hybrid and the Roof Lodge Maikhan (140) are both hybrid tents in the same part of the market, which makes them a genuine head-to-head rather than a comparison across categories. Darche and Roof Lodge take noticeably different approaches to the same problem.

The Maikhan (140) is 41 kg lighter at 55 kg against 96 kg, which on a factory roof rated for 68 to 75 kg is often the difference between a legal fit and a rack upgrade. Inside, the Double Dee Hybrid gives 2.84 m² of sleeping floor against 2.54 m², about 12 percent more, though both are rated for 2. List prices are within $124 of each other, so price is unlikely to decide this one.

Canvas differs too: 280gsm Ripstop Polycotton Canvas body; 420D Polyester Oxford Ripstop fly (3000mm both) against 210 g/m2 PU-coated RipStop polyester/cotton blend (sun sail 180 g/m2 with metallised inner coating).

Darche

Double Dee Hybrid

The Double Dee Hybrid is an ABS/aluminium hardshell rooftop tent with a canvas body that deploys via an X-hinge, weighing 96kg (102kg with roof rails). It has windows on all sides, a tinted sky window, roughly 100L of internal storage pockets plus a roof storage grid, and a 50mm memory-foam mattress. Roof rails and a 2.3m telescopic ladder are included.

  • Published weight (96kg excl. rails / 102kg incl.)
  • Roof rails included; large internal storage (~100L)
  • 3000mm waterhead on both body and fly
  • Heaviest of Darche's published-weight rooftop tents

Roof Lodge

Maikhan (140)

The Roof Lodge Maikhan is a German-made hybrid rooftop tent: a hard cover lifts and the fabric body folds out like a soft-shell to enlarge the floor area. It sits on Roof Lodge's thermoplastic honeycomb floor and uses a 210 g/m2 PU-coated polyester/cotton RipStop canopy, with a quick-mount frame said to require only four bolts. The 140 is the smaller of the two Maikhan sizes, with a 130 x 195 cm sleeping area and a closed height of about 29 cm.

  • Hybrid design combines a low-profile hard cover with a fold-out tent for extra floor space
  • German thermoplastic honeycomb floor and a robust PU-coated polycotton canopy
  • Supplied with a 2.3 m aluminium telescoping ladder, LED light and two travel pillows
  • Was listed as temporarily out of stock at the verifying dealer on 2026-07-27

Which one to pick

Take the Maikhan (140) if your roof load limit is the binding constraint. Take the Double Dee Hybrid if you need the sleeping room more than you need the lighter tent. Beyond that the feature rows below — heater port, skylight, annex, cargo rails — are where the remaining difference lies.
