What's the difference?

Hardshell: A rigid moulded lid that is the tent's roof when closed. Opens in under a minute, packs low and stays weatherproof shut — but the shell is dead weight, so you get less floor per kilogram.
Softshell: Fabric under a cover, unfolded over the side of the vehicle. Roughly two to three minutes to set up and a taller closed profile, but far more sleeping room per kilogram and much cheaper.
Hybrid: A rigid base and lid with fabric sides that fold out beyond the vehicle's footprint. Aims for a hardshell's setup speed with a softshell's floor area.
